“There is no question of my relinquishing the crown of Abyssinia either now or in the future. To abdicate would be an act of cowardice toward my native land and gallant people who. whatever the Italians say, are still loyal and faithful to their rightful Emperor,” declared Haile Selassie in a special interview with the “Daily Mail.” He said it would not be fitting and proper for him to criticise the British Government’s policy, but if the League now decided to abandon sanctions it might mean the fall of Geneva. “The policy of collective security is only capable of bringing lasting peace if it is honestly applied by all members of the League,” he said. “Any modification of the Covenant without a prior settlement of the present conflict is destined to failure from the outSet. v The Abyssinian Legation in London claims the Emperor is still receiving messages from the Regency Government in Western Abyssinia. “The messages show the Government Is in control, everything is normal, and the civil population and troops are loyal, 5 ’ it adds.
