SUNDAY CONCERT
Circassians and Wellington Regimental Band
In a cheery and entertaining programme, of high quality and considerable variety, the Circassians, together with the full military band of the First Battalion of the Wellington Regiment, appeared last night at the St. James Theatre. In proof of the growing popularity of Sunday concerts, there was a good attendance of listeners, and the numbers were greatly appreciated. The Circassian party wore artistic and colourful costume, and numbered about 80, both men and women taking part. With the military band in full uniform, the mass effect was particularly pleasing and spectacular. Probably the most popular numbers were the ‘‘Angelas'’ from "Maritana” and the “Soldiers’ Chorus from “Faust.” The regimental dance band contributed some bright numbers.
The programme, which was arranged in honour of the King’s Birthday, was under the official patronage of the officers of the regiment, of whom a number attended the concert.
