Every year the Mayor of Upper Hutt. Mr. A. J. McCurdy, whose birthday coincides with that of Sir Thomas AVilford, former High Commissioner for New Zealand, marks the event on the notice-board outside the Record Hall at Upper Hutt. Sir Thomas and Mr. McCurdy were frequently brought together in local body government during the former’s residence in New’ Zealand and the coincidence of their birthdays was always a matter of joking between them. This year the inscription on the board reads: “Game of Life —Score on June 20. 1936: McCurdy. A, J., nof out. 76; AVllford, Sir Thomas, not out, 66.”
