BODY IN WARDROBE
Sydney Woman’s Gruesome Find CORD TIGHT ROUND NECK (Received June 19, 10.25 p.m.) Sydney, June 19. The woman occupant of a residence in Clarence Street, close to the Sydney Harbour bridge, made a grim discovery this afternoon when she called a locksmith to open a wardrobe in an upstairs fiat. She was confronted with the body of a woman who had apparently been strangled about a week ago. The body is being examined to-night at the city morgue. Detectives were quickly on the scene, but did not touch the body until a close examination had been made by the Government pathologist. Dr. Sheldon, who discovered a strong cord strained tightly round the dead woman’s throat, sufficient in itself to cause death. He also noticed injuries to her head from which it would appear that the victim was firstrendered insensible with a heavy instrument and then strangled. The victim was about 35\ years of age. The keeper of the flats told the police that a man occupied the flat until about a week ago, when he disappeared with the keys, including one for the wardrobe. The dead woman was a complete stranger to the other occupants. Police are making every effort to locate the man. The woman was fully dressed and in a huddled position on her back. There was a severe wound in her forehead. So far she has not been identified.. The identity of the man is also unknown, but a description of the pair is being circulated to all police.
