Druids

The annual meeting of Royal Arch Chapter No. 4, United Ancient Order of Druids, was held in the committee room of the Town Hall last week. R.A.D. Bro. A. Kotko presided over a large attendance. The Arch Druid degree was conferred on an officer of Coronation Lodge and two sisters were initiated members of the school of instruction. P.A. Bro. Willis reported the result of the Mooney Shield ritual competition, won by Melrose Lodge with 278 points. The judges, I’.A.’s Bro. Willis and Ewing, were accorded a vote of thanks for their services. The annual balance-sheet was received and adopted. Grand Guardian Bro. 11. S. Abel, assisted by P.P. Bro. Gauntlott, installed the following officers for the ensuing term; R.A.D., Bro. J. Taylor, Pacific Lodge; R.V.A.D., Bro. IT. J. Willis, Excelsior; R. Treas., Bro. T. Mollison, Coronation; R.A. Bards, Bros. Humphry#, Holly, and Bro. C. Cooper, Coronation; R.V.A. Bards, Bro. W. Cooper, Island Bay, and Bro. Clements, Coronation; R.i.G., Bro. R. Ewing, Island Bay; R.M. Secretary, Bro. Wakeling, Pacific; R.A. Secretary, Bro. Abel. Past President Bro. Ogden, Melrose Lodge, was complimented on his untiring work for the chapter, and it was decided to, present him with a jewel. The chapter will pay an official visit to Island Bay lodge in July. Excelsior Lodge No. 11. The A.D., Bro. Harris, presided over the half-yearly meeting of Excelsior Lodge of Druids. The bards reported on sick members, and sick pay, £33/9/8, and accounts were passed for payment. Invitations were received from Pacific Lodge to attend their jubilee social and dance. Correspondence was received from the U.F.S. Indoor Bowls Association concerning the Taylor Rolfe Cup tournament, and it was decided to leave the number of teams to be entered in the hands of the sports captain. The District President, Bro. 11. J. Willis, capably assisted by P.A. Bro. Lepper as master of ceremony, installed the officers of the lodge. Reports were received from the delegates to the Royal Arch Chapter, U.F.S. Council, Dispensary Board and the Medical Institute. Congratulations were offered Bro. Bailey on his having successfully passed through the chairs of the lodge, and it was decided that he be presented with a P.A. collar and diploma. Pride of Brooklyn. There was a good attendance of members at Pride of Brooklyn Lodge at which the District President. Bro. Willis, attended officially and was received with the honours of the order. The Arch Druid, Bro. J. W. James, presided. Ono candidate was initiated. The D.P., assisted by P.A. Bro. Rogers, installed the following officers for the ensuing year: A.D.. Bro. Giddens; V.A. Bro. R. Mead; J.P.A., Bro. James; 1.G., Sister Quinn; 0.G.. Bro. J. D. Mead; Sec, Bro. L. Tremayne; Treas., Bro. Dockery; M.C., Bro. R. Renkin; A.D. Bards, Bros. Rubenstein and Cressy, V.A.B.’s, Bros. Brains and Chalk. After a vote of thanks to the visitors, a social and dance was held. Pacific Lodge. A.D. Bro. Waddle, jun., presided over a good attendance of members of Pacific Lodge. The sick bard’s report was received and sick pay amounting to £57 6/- passed for payment. The A.D. reported with regret the deaths of three members, and the wife of a member, and a vote of condolence was passed. The D.P., Bro. Willis, installed Bro. I. Smith M.C. for the current term. Two candidates were initiated into the order and one member admitted by clearance. Bro. Smith reported bn the annual meeting of the U.F.B- Dispensary. The secretary reported that final arrangements had been made for the jubilee social and dance. A vote of thanks to the visitors was replied to by Bro. Willis, Excelsior, and A.D. Bro. Stairmand, Island Bay Lodge.
