Seaman Fined For False
Declaration
Magistrate Court cases in Wellington yesterday were dealt with by Mr. E. D. Mosley, B.M. . A seaman, John Patrick Burke, was convicted and fined £3 and costs for making a false statement concerning earnings received by him for the week ended January 25, 1936, thus misleading an officer engaged in the administration oi the Unemployment Act. Herbert Hastings, of Titabi Bay, was charged with being the owner of a dangerous black and white collie dog. Complainant, J. H. Marshall, for whom Mr. A. J. Mazengarb appeared, sa-d that the dog, a black and white collie, had destroyed two of his sheep. Defendant had agreed to have the dog destroyed, but it was, still alive. ' The magistrate convicted Hastings and ordered him to pay costs, 12/- witnesses expenses 21/-, and counsel s fee £l/1/-. An order was made for tbe destruction of the dog. , , Andrew Bremner appeared on a charge of receiving a radio set valued at £lB 18/-, the property of Philips Lamps (N.Z.), Ltd., on December 23, know.ug it to have been dishonestly obtained, and on a further charge of receiving.an electric clock valued at £2, the property of Frederick Morton Lockwood. Defendant was remanded until July l.bail being allowed in the sum of £5O, with one surety of £5O. „ , . A case against Dorothy Catherine Rabone, who was charged with selling milk below standard, was adjourned until July 10.
