Second Round Matches The Wellington Rugby Union's senior grade first division competition enters upon its second round to-day, and the procedure of the past few seasons in promoting two teams from the second division has been followed again this season. From to-morrow Johnsonville and St. Patrick’s College Old Boys will be iu the top grade, and they will start off with the same number of points as gained by Poneke and Wellington College Old Boys in the first round. At the moment four teams are bracketed iu leading place iu the top division —Poneke, Wellington College Old Boys, Johnsonville, and St. Patrick’s College Old Boys. Only a point behind are Athletic, with Eastbourne and Wellington near at baud, and Petoue coining into the picture. To-day Athletic and Petone will meet at Athletic Park. Petone’s rise of late has assisted in making the championship outlook more open than ever, and, with Athletic- still to be regarded as being among the strongest contenders for this year’s championship, it is to be expected that to-djiy’s event at the park will be one of hard-striving by the participants and productive of exhilarating football for the onlookers. There will be particular interest iu the performances of players in view of Wellington’s match with Taranaki on Tuesday, E. W. Tindill, who has been on the injured list, will be reappearing in the role in which he .is most accustomed — that of half-back.. Railway Apprentices’ Match. The Hutt Valley railway workshop apprentices will be represented in the annual football match for the Johnson Cup against the Otahuhu apprentices at Auckland on the King’s Birthday by the following team: —J. Boddy (captain), 11. Marsden, L. Clarke, B. Simpson, R. Cosgrove. R. Travers, C. Adams, W. Skirton, Kaye, S. White, M. Ingpen, R. Kemp, W. Scullion, J. Simpson, F. McWha, E. Croom, Walker and Boykett. The cup, which is at present held by Otahuhu, has been played for eight times, and has been won by Otahuhu on the last four occasions. Mr. J. McGuire will act as manager of the Hutt team.
