Association Formed

The proposed rules of the Wellington Taxi Proprietors’ Association, a body formed with the object of promoting the interests of tbe owners of taxis in the city and suburbs, were dis cussed at a meeting on Thursday night. Mr W. Joyce, who presided, said that the meeting had been called following another meeting at which a committee had been elected. The com mittee had sent a letter to the Minister of Transport, Hon. R. Semple, asking him to receive a deputation from the association to discuss the question of wages. No acknowledgment had yet been received. Mr. R. Watterson, who had drafted suggested rules for the association, explained that they were only basic. Any amendment necessary to realise the ideals of tbe association eould bo made. Tbe objects were briefly to promote au organisation of taxi proprietors, to establish and maintain uniform conditions in the business, to obtain or introduce improved conditions and services, and to carry out any other transactions or proceed in any other direction for the benefit of taxi proprietors. At the conclusion of discussion on the rules, it was unanimously decided to form the association, and to incorporate it.
