SOLDIERS’ LEADER
Portrait For Art Gallery The New Zealand Returned Soldier*’ Association yesterday empowered its executive committee to proceed with the project of obtaining a portrait painting of Major-General Sir Andrew Russell, commander of the New Zealand Forces during the greater part of the war and president of the association until he retired from office last year, to be hung in the National Art Gallery, Wellington. The president, Hon. AV. Perry, M.L.C., introduced the subject.
Mr. E. F. Willcox suggested that Mr. A. F. Nicoll, of Christchurch, should be commissioned to paint the portrait. He pointed out that Mr. Nicoll was a leading portrait painter and was a returned soldier, having been seriously wounded.
