OBITUARY
Colonel Percy Owen
(Received Juno 17, 12.22 a.m.) Sydney, June 16.
The death has occurred of Colonel Percy Owen, first Director-General of Works at Canberra.
As Director-General of Works at Canberra and later as chief engineer. Colonel Owen supervised much of the construction work at the Federal capital. He retired from the latter position in 1928. Colonel Owen was born at Wollongong in 1864. From IS9G to 1900 he was staff officer for engineer services in New South Wales, and he served in the South African War. After being Assistant Adjutant-General for Engineers on the headquarters staff of the Commonwealth military forces from 1901 to 1904. he was appointed Inspector and Director-General of Works to the Commonwealth, a position ho held until lie took up the Canberra post in 1922.
