“LABURNUM GROVE”
Thespians to Produce Priestley Comedy
To-morrow night will be the occasion of the first performance by a major society in New Zealand of a play by J. B. Priestley, acknowledged to be one of the foremost modern British playwrights, when tlie Thespians are to present, as their second production of the 1936 season, that author’s “Laburnum Grove.” an “immoral comedy in three acts.” Priestley’s novels have made him well known to many thousands of people in this country, but this i~ the first occasion ou which an opportunity lias been given of seeing one of his plays performed—by a society whose productions have been described by visitors as equal to the highest overseas standard. A special cast, comprising some of the best talent available in Wellisgton, will present the play, under the direction of Victor S. Lloyd, director of tlie Thespians, who has been responsible of all that society’s productions. Those taking part include: O. N. Gillespie, one of New Zealand’s best-known amateur performers, who is reappearing on the stage after two years, Vera Horton, Dorothy aTnsley. A. D. Priestley. Betty Wilson. Evan Harrowed. Max Willis, R. J. Larkin, and L. M. Schneideman.
