SEARCH FOR OIL
No Government Action on
East Coast
“if is not the intention of the Government to search for oil on the East Coast: of Hie North Island,” said the Minister of Mines, lion. I’. C. Webb, yesterday in an interview.
"It is true that. I recently referred to the possibility of an early and intensive investigation by experts of the East Coast: oilfields, but I gave no indication that the investigation or the experts would be in any way associated witii the Government. The activities, if they eventuate, will be sponsored entirely by private interests. I have not even been approached with any request for financial assistance from the Government toward the cost of the investigation or any subsequent operations.”
