Men Being Put Back To Their Normal Work SUCCESS OF PLAN Luder the placement scheme introduced by the Employment Division of the Labour Department, one of the most ambitious of the plans devised to place in their usual trades or occupations men who are receiving relief assistance ami other men who desire help jn obtaining private employment, 705 men have been transferred from relief or meagre casual and unremunerative work to permanent or wellpaid casual employment in six weeks The permanent placements are slightly more numerous than those of a casual nature. Official returns of total placements show the following figures:—

357 705 Such has been the initial success of this plan for discovering worth-while jobs and the men to fill them, says an official announcement, that the cordiality of its reception by employers is not only a tribute to the efficiency of its organisation, but an augury that the widening of its scope of operations will probably later be necessary. The scheme is based on the belief that, it is necessary to give normal private employment an opportunity to function, and that there is no other way of permanently bringing about a decrease in unemployment!.
