POLICE PUZZLED
Waihou Valley Murder
By Telegraph—Press Association
Whangarei, June 13.
The police are still puzzled by the murilor of Mr. Ernest Severin Nelson near his home in Waihou Valley, on Tuesday evening, and realise that they are up against a ditlieult problem. The cartridge wads found near the body show that the gun used was a 12bore, which is a common type and provides little help. Many Maoris in the vicinity have an imperfect knowledge of English, which makes questioning difficult and unprofitable. A Maori-speaking detective has now arrived.
The funeral of Mr. Nelson took place at Kawakawa yesterday, the esteem in which he was held being cvldencd by a large gathering of Europeans and Maoris.
