KAIN—WALE. The engagement is announced Jf Nola, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Wale, Upper Hutt, to Kenneth, second son of Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Kain, Goldies Brae. TAIHAPE RECEPTION TO ELAINE HAMILL The Taihape Town Hall was filled to capacity recently for a civic reception to Miss Elaine Hamill, of tbe J. C. Williamson Company at present touring the Dominion. On the platform was tbe Mayor, Mr. L. B. H. de Lautour, and Mrs. de Lantour, Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Hamill (parents of Miss Elaine Hamill), and Mf. and Mrs. A. 0. P. Batley, representing Hie country districts. Tbe Mayor, in eulogising the ability and determination of Miss Hamill, claimed her as Taibape’s daughter, and extended tbe guest a warm welcome and hearty congratulations on her meteoric rise to fame. .Mr. Batley spoke on similar lines. The Mayor presented Miss Hamill with a handsome toilet set, the gift of the people of Taihape. Miss Hamill said she was greatly moved by the token of esteem presented her, and added that it was the thrill of her life to be once again in Taihape, renewing old friendships and, best of all, seeing her father and mother, both of whom bad done.so much to assist, her. A bouquet was then presented to Mrs. Hamill by the Mayoress, who assured her that Taihape shared her pride in tbe success of her daughter. Mr. J. E. Hamill, who was greeted wit li applause, spoke of the generous encouragement that the Australians had given the New Zealand girl, and admitted it was indeed a proud moment in his life. He felt sure that, wherever his daughter might travel, she would carry with her the good wishes of the people of Taihape.
