WIN FOR POSSIBLES
Side to Meet Australia

Ad was only to be expected, there was not a great deal of combination in either the Probables or Possibles elevens which tried conclusions in a representative trial game at the Basin Reserve on Saturday afternoon. On paper, Possibles appeared to have much the stronger side, and though they duly won by 5 goals to 3, there was really little difference between the two teams.
Leslie, Heath and Hatchard shone in the Probables forward line, but it was not until the second spell that they made much impression on the sound defence of Miles and Haines. Possibles led by 3 goals to 2 at half-time. The former scored first, the understanding between the dub-mates JlcKenzie and Gendall enabling the inside left to push the bait past Parton. XX’ebster, at centre-for-ward for Possibles, took a little time to get going, but he finished off a neat movement begun by Jeffery and Kershaw to put life side further ahead. Heath, the nippy Swifts inside left, was at times brilliant and at others mediocre, but he gave evidence that in a strong forward line he would be dangerous near the goal. He and Leslie followed in better than any of the other forwards, and in this way he obtained Probables’ first goal. Turkington played with much more confidence than Parton, who appeared to have a somewhat off day. From a corner, Parton secured, but lost life balance and fell, into the net, carrying the ball with him, giving Possibles their third goal. Probables lessened the gap when XV’oods centred and a misunderstanding between Miles and Haines saw the latter send the ball through his own goal. . i . Longbottom was seen at his best in tae second spell. His headwork was splendid, and on the day he appeared to shade the consistent Jeffery. Leslie played his usual unselfish game, but luck was not with him. Webster, after several fruitless attempts, scored Possibles’ fourth goal with a hard drive, but immediately the Probables forwards swung into action. Woods, Gibb, Hatchard and Heath romping through the defence in a brilliant short-passing movement. Leslie received in a handy position and tapped the ball past Turkington. Gendall and McKenzie, who played one of his best games, were associated in a bright movement, Gendall drawing Parton for his club-mate to score an easy goal. The teams were as follow:— Possibles: Turkington (Jlarist) ; \\ ■ Miles (Hospital), S. Haines (Petone) : J. Todd (Hospital), E. Jeffery (Hospital) 0.
