FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Some scattered showers, otherwise fine and milder.
Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day :— An intense anti-cyclone lies centrally over the Dominion. A shallow depression is located over the western Tasman Sea and moving slowly eastward. South-east to north-east winds at first north of Cape Egmont and Castlepoint, but gradually tending more northerly, force light but later freshening; north to north-west winds elsewhere and moderate to strong; a change to west or south-west later in the southern part of the South Island. A considerable southerly swell at first between Hawkes Bay and East Cape, and rough about Fovcaux Strait: elsewhere in New Zealand waters seas slight to moderate, but later rising south of Cape Egmont. Li"ht to moderate northerly winds, freshening gradually, in the eastern Tasman Sea; changing Io south-west shortly in the southern portion. Seas slight, to moderate, but increasing. . , ~ . A few scattered showers at first on the east coast between Hawkes Lay and Last. Cape: otherwise line, but shortly becoming unsettledand rain developing in western and southern districts of the South Island. Cold to-night, but milder to-morrow. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. . Wellington.—-Brilliantly fine, with a clear sky and only a very light northerly breeze. The morning was cold, a frost being recorded. The minimum temperature on Thursday night was 37.2 deg.: the maximum yesterday, ol.3deg„ and the temperature at 3 p.m., 48.1 deg. Rainfall at Kelburn to 9 a.m. was Rainfall at “The Dominion” building for 24 hours ended midnight, .Olin. Total for month, ,7in.; total for year. 23.57 in Palmerston North. —Early morning frost, followed by fog; brilliant sunshine from a cloudless sky for the rest of the day; light but cold wind, varying from the south-east to south-west. , ~ , • , Masterton. —Bright sunshine from a cloudless sky; no wind. Wanganui.—A beautiful day after a hard frost. Waipukurau—A slight frost in the morning was followed by a cool, sunny day. Auckland.—Fine and sunny, but a light southerly wind made conditions chilly m the shade. After rising to 30.40 in. by midday, the barometer fell to 30.30 m. during the afternoon, then remained steady. Christchurch. —Fine but chilly, with a moderate north-east breeze in the mornin-. , freshening in the afternoon. The maximum .temperature was 49.0 deg. J.he barometer was falling slowly and last evcn’ng stood at 30.20 m. Dunedin. —Dull, except for a short period in the early afternoon. lhe morning ' temperature was cold, but the thermometer rose to sodeg. later. Jhe barometer fell throughout the day.
