FREE KINDERGARTEN

Combined Branches’ Dance

Tlie dunce organised by the committees of the Wellington South and Newtown branches of tlie Wellington Free Kindergarten and held at St. Francis Hall last night was a particularly pleasant affair, and the funds of the kindergarten should be considerably augmented from its undoubted success. Customarily, these two branches of the free kindergartens hold a dance separately to assist their own funds, but on this occasion the commitlees decided to combine iu one big ellort —an experiment which might well be repeated. The red aud gold furnished hall looked as festive as it always does, mid bud an added decoration in the huge jars of greenery that stood along the front of the stage. Carpets and easy chairs were placed in two corners for those who preferred to watch rather than dance all tlie evening, and the upstairs lounge was used for the same purpose. The supper room had bright autumn colours as the keynote of decoration—orange streamers being placed in criss-cross fashion along the tables, aud vivid iceland poppies mingled with birch tilling many vases. A recess on the stairs was arranged as a buffet for the serving of ieod fruit cup, which was much appreciated.

The president of the Wellington South committee, Mrs. Mae Lean, wearing a black cloque gown with yoke of oyster lace, and Airs. A. D. Monro, president of the Newtown committee, who wore a brown velvet jacket with her autumn-toned floral gebugette frock, received the guests.
