Breathless Time !
It is a very breathless time ot the year, don't you think? The whole place is just, waiting, waiting for something to happen. It happened last year, of course, hut I can't remember what it was. Have you got any chilblains yet? Jack Frost is a very warm-hearted fellow. I suppose, but I don’t like his hearty handshakes. I sometimes think of little Kay in the “Snow Queen,” by Hans Anderson, on these very white mornings. I wonder how he felt when she kissed him until he could feel the cold no longer, and then bore him away in her great chariot of ice. It is easier to feel like Little Gerda, travelling farther and farther into a strange new world, the tail-lights of the Snow Queen's chariot shining ahead, and all else lost in a great whirl of whiteness —Mary Greig, Wanganui.
