STORIES OF THE OPEN AIR
“Modern Stories of the Open Air,” edited by John Hadfield (London: Dent).
Short story writing has become such a fashionable art that it must have been a gigantic task selecting twenty-two of the best open-air stories from the hordes which pour from the press in periodicals and in volumes of short stories. However, the reader has only to glance at the list of authors' who are represented in ‘‘Modern Stories of the Open Air” to realise that the editor has sought a high standard of artistic attainment before including stories iu his collection. Among those whose stories appear in this volume are IL E. Bates, Joseph Conrad, Mary Webb, D. H. Lawrence, Liam O’Flaherty. W H. Hudson, Siegfried Sassoon and Edward Thomas.
