HINTS ABOUT HAIR
If the hair appears dull, dry and lifeless after a shampoo it is a sure sign that a tonic is needed. An excellent tonic can easily be made at home with simple Ingredients. Procure a small bottle, and in it mix together one ounce of castor oil and one ounce of glycerine. Add a few drops of alcohol, and shake well. Also, there are numerous good tonics that may be purchased from one's chemist or beauty parlour. Afer the usual weekly or fortnightly shampoo apply a few drops of the tonic lotion to the head .with the finger-tips. Massage well into the scalp. The bottle must always bo well shaken before using. Oily Hair. Oily hair is a nuisance, and it never looks nice. Over-active oil glands are the trouble, and must be remedied. The shampoo is of first importance. A good one for home use can be made by dissolving some “tincture of green soap” in water. Add 2oz. of the soap to a pint of water. Place on the gas in an old saucepan and allow to simmer until the soap is thoroughly dissolved. Then place it to one side and allow to cool. This will make enough soap for three or four shampoos. Massage the lather well into the scalp and allow it to remain on the hair for a few minutes before rinsing off. If this shampoo is used every 10 to 14 days it will be found of great benefit. Blonde Hair. Blonde women are often troubled by their hair becoming dark and the danger of losing the delightful golden glints which are so much admired. Here is an excellent method of restoring them to the hair. Procure some camomile flowers, which can be obtained from any chemist, and place a handful in a small muslin bag. Place this bag in a pint of warm water and allow it to soak for five minutes. Then remove and squeeze out the bag. Now shampoo the hair and use the camomile water as a final rinse. This is inexpensive, and if used after every shampoo it will have a decidedly beneficial effect on the hair, bringing out the shining lustre.
