Strong Sapling Stakes Field REVIEW OF FORM

The Ashburton Trotting Club has again received excellent acceptances for its meeting to-day, and a splendid contest is promised for the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, the field for which appears to be a particularly even one from the point of view of merit. No doubt Southern Chief will be favourite, but spirited support is likely to be accorded quite a number of the competitors. The field for the Sapling Stakes is probably the best that has ever been brought together to contest the baby classic. From the point of view of racing experience, Southern Chief has a slight advantage over most of the others. He is not too certain at the start, bqt on this occasion the field will not be so large and he may go away better in conse--•ce. Parisienne, Becky .Direct and

Frisco Bov have all raced promisingly, while several of the others are reported to be sno°dv. One cannot, however ■disregard publie form, and so the probabilities are that Southern Chief.
