Move By Southern Troops
EFFORTS AT SETTLEMENT
(Received June 9, 1.8 a.m.) Canton, June 8.
Kwangs! troops crossed the border Into the Central Government Province of Hunan, and have reached Yungchowfu, 15 miles from the frontier. So far they have avoided the Nanking forces. Shore leave of the British and American fleets on Far Eastern stations has been cancelled as a precautionary measure. Strenuous efforts are being made to compose the differences between the Nanking and Canton Governments. Japan’s attitude is described as “watchful waiting.” She believes the southern movement, is directed against Nanking rather than Japan. IN EVENT OF WAR Moscow Would Support Appeal by China (Received June 8, 8.45 p.m.) Moscow, June 8. Official circles express the opinion that, in the event of war between China and Japan, Moscow would support any appeal for help by China as a member of the League.
