ELECTRICITY CHARGES

Primary Schools to Seek Lower Rate With a view to seeking some consideration in the matter of electricity charges to primary schools in Wellington and suburbs a deputation from the Wellington School Committees’ and Educational Federation is to wait on I the Electricity Department of the Wellington City Council. This course was I decided on' at a meeting of the federation last night on the suggestion of the Berhampore School. It was stated that the charges to school committees were on a commercial basis. It was thought by the Berhampore School committee, said Mr. E. Miller, that the commercial basis on which the school committees were charged by the Wellington City Council electricity department was out of the question. The department should be approached in au effort to obtain the domestic charges. His committee bad approached the department and had been told that other committees were paying the commercial charges and therefore the Berhampore committee should also do so. The Karori committee had also been told the same thing, and had since installed gas stoves at the school. Electricity was a large item in some schools, said Mrs. M. O’Donnell, Te Aro. . The City Council should make some effort to reduce electricity charges to school committees. The deputation appointed was the president, Mr. J. Fyfe, the vice-presi-dent, Mr. H. R. Searle, and the secretary, Mr. A. T. Burnette.
