DIAMOND WEDDING
Mr. and Mrs. G. Butler, Carterton The distinction of celebrating their diamond wedding was achieved last. Friday by Mr. ami Mrs. G. Butler, senr., Moreton Road, Carterton. Mr. and Mrs. Butler were married on Juno 5, 1876. at Retford, Nottinghamshire, England. Three years later they came to New Zealand in the sailins vessel Rakaia (Captain Metcalfe), atid since that time they have lived in the Wairarapa, being for many years at Carterton.
The diamond wedding celebrations took place in the Methodist Sunday school hall. Some sixty guests gathered to honour Mr. and Mrs. Butler, and numerous telegrams and messages of congratulations were received, including telegrams from his Majesty King Edward VIH and from the Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, Prime Minister. All Mr. and Mrs. Buller's family, with the exception of two grandsons, were present. Their children are: Mrs. E. Parker, West Taratahi, Carterton; Mr. George Butler, junr., Carterton; Mrs. R. Totty, Ashburton: Mrs. E. A. King, Karori; Mrs. H. G. Andrews, Moreton Road, Carterton; and Mr. F. Butler, Te Teko, Whakatane. There are thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who presented their great-grandparents with a bouquet and a buttonhole. The Rev. H. White acted as M.C. at the celebrations. The cake, bearing the dates 1876 and 1936, was cut by Mrs. But lor, assisted by her four daughters. Another cake was cut to celebrate the birthday of Teddie Clark, a greatgrandson. which fell on the same day. Mrs. G. Butler, junr., whose birthday was also on June 5, received a bouquet.
