TO BE CHARGED WITH CONTEMPT
Dr. Townsend and Aides (Received May 29. 7.35 p.m.) Washington, May 28. The House of Representatives to-day voted, by 271 to 41, to cite Dr. Townsend and his two aides for contempt. The House, in so doing, instructed prosecution officials in the district of Columbia fo initiate a criminal action against them. A Washington cable on May 21 state:! that the investigation by a House of Representatives committee of the Jowns end movement for the payment of oldage pensions, was halted suddenly when Dr. Townsend boiled from the committee meeting in a huff. He said he would give no further testimony and defied the House of Representatives to have hurt arro-ted. Dr. Townsend’s defiance fo,lowcd a committee allegation that h-s organisation used the mails to defraud tn soliciting pennies from the inmates of the Masonic Home for aged people on the promise that they would soon he awarded a 200 dollar monthly pennon.
