BRIDGE PARTY

Hard of Hearing League 'rhe New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing (Wellington branch) held a bridge party at the National Club on Thursday evening, to raise funds for the league. Prizes for the highest, scores were awarded to Miss K. Scotti and Mr. IL Cook. A prize for the concealed number was also given. At the conclusion of the evening Mr. B. A. Moore, a member of the executive committee, gave a brief outline of the activities of the league and its aims and objects. Its chief object was tiie teaching of lip-reading. Young people on the threshold of life were severely handicapped when they lost their hearing. They found it difficult to earn their living and enter into social life, as they were precluded from most pleasures and recreations. The league was in great need of members, as expenses were increasing owing to expansion <>£ activities. Among the players were: Dr. and Airs. W. .Macdonald, Dr. and Mrs. Gibbs, Mr. and Mrs. B. A. Moore, Mrs. G. G. Watson, Airs. Alartiu-Innes, Airs. G. Stock. Mrs. D. Hall, Airs. Fownes, Airs. Pulley. Aliss Kitching, Air. and Airs. J. Hutchison, Alisses Alarsh, Airs. Irvine, Aliss K. Scott, Aliss Rich, Aliss Sorrell, Aliss Aherns, Aliss Al. E. Eggleton (teacher of lip-reading) and Airs. J F. Nicholson (secretary).

Airs. D. Sullivan, who will leave Wellington shortly to take up her residence in Blenheim, said farewell to some friends at an enjoyable little tea party which she gave at the D.I.U. yesterday afternoon. The table was decorated M ill) a bowl of vivid iceland poppies. Airs. Sullivan's guests were: Mesdames Chamberlain, Colbert, Falconer, Laing. Thomson, Fitness, Redpath, Collins, Jennings, Barlow and Cooper.
