FARM LABOUR UNDER ARBITRATION ACT
Objections in South By Telegraph—Press Association. Divercargill, May 29. The wisdom of protesting at this stage against the Government’s proposals to bring farm labourers under the Arbitration Court was the main topic of discussion, when the following remit from the Gore sub-executive was introduced at the provincial conference of the Farmers’ Union to-day: "That in view of the proposed fixation of a minimum wage and reduced hours of working for dairying and perhaps eventually for other sections of the farming Industry, this conference reaffirms its objection to bringing such farm labour under the jurisdiction of the Arbitration Court.” It was said that those engaged in the dairy industry were expected to pass on the benefit of the guaranteed prices scheme to their labour and that they could not offer any objection. r The remit was carried.
