Construction of Homes For Renting SECURITY FOR TENANTS • The Government’s housing proposals were amplified by the Minister of Finance, Hon. W. Nash, when replying to the second-reading debate on the State Advances Corporation Bill in the House of Representatives yesterday. The Minister said it was proposed to ask Parliament to authorise a sum of money for the building of houses which would be rented to people. To meet the positiou of those who were unable to put down a deposit er those whose circumstances were such that they could not be tied to a house, there would be built in sufficient number houses for those people to rent. The tenants would be given absolute security of tenure, whether on lease or on rent. It was also proposed to make monz’ available at a low rate of interest so that local bodies could engage in the building of houses. The local authorities concerned would be responsible. Where a person was willing to put down a small sum to obtain a home it was proposed to find the money at a low rate of interest. It was intended to allow as small a margin as possible.
