PARAMOUNT THEATRE

“The Dark Angel” No fewer than three stars who have achieved outstanding success by themselves appear together in the beautiful romantic drama, “The Dark Angel,’’ which commenced a season at the Paramount Theatre yesterday. Most striking is Merle Oberon, the dark English beauty, who has soared to fame in remarkably short time. But in “The Dark Angel" she has her most human role to date. Opposite her are two other stars whom the producers rightly regard as “box office" — Herbert Marshall, another English actor who took Hollywood by storm, and Fredric March. This beautiful love story, set in a quiet corner of lovely rural England follows the life of Kittv Vane (Merle Oberon) and her neighbours, Alan Trent (Fredric March) and his cousin, Gerald Shannon (Herbert Marshall). Since childhood, Kitty has adored the indifferent Alan, and Gerald has adored her. The war takes both men. and in the trenches there comes to Alan a realisation of his love for Kitty. Home on leave, he tells her, and (hey plan to marry nt once. Then comes a sudden order cancelling all leave. Alan is reported killed, and Kitty’s life is broken. After the war she resigns herself to an engagement to Gerald, but Fate steps in and provides a happy ending.
