SMUGGLING IN CHINA

Mr Anthony Eden, answered a number of questions in the House of Commons concerning smuggling in Northern China Referring to various suggestions for improving tho position as put forward in questions. Mr Eden said be thought the best means of checking smuggling would he restoration to Chinese preventive agencies of the norma) means of exercising their authority So far as he was aware, no other Government, apart from the Chinese. British and United States Governments, had made representations on this subject at Tokio. but the British Ambassador had kept in close touch with represen tn fives of other interested Powers. Mr Eden added that the attention of Die Japanese Government had been called to rhe detriment caused Io leaiti mate Japanese Interests In general by the incidence of wholesale smuggling in North Chinn.
