NEW ZEALAND AT GENEVA

The Government's decision that the High Commissioner-designate, Mr. W. J. Jordan, should represent New Zealand at the September meeting of the League of Nations Assembly at Geneva is in the circumstances to be commended. This meeting is of unusual importance to the Dominion, as there is every prospect of New Zealand’s being elected to a seat on the League Council. It is desirable, therefore, that the new High Commissioner, who may have to make frequent journeys to Geneva in connection with Council business, should have the earliest opportunity of acquainting himself with the nature and method of proceedings, and that, as the Prime Minister has indicated will be provided, he should have the assistance of an efficient staff. Mr. Jordan will go to Geneva with a fresh mind, and it should be helpful to the Government to have, through a representative newly come from the New Zealand Parliament, such a favourable and privileged opportunity of encountering the realities of European high politics at close quarters.
