FORECAST FOR TO-DAY’S WEATHER.
Fair Io fine generally; cold night temperatures, moderate in the day. Following is the weather report and forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, Wellington, for the 2-1 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day:— Except that the northern depression has moved farther eastward and pressure has risen somewhat to lhe north and east, the general situation remains unchanged, with an anti-eyelone covering the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Southerly to south-easlerlv winds over the North Island, still strong at places north of Auckland, but otherwise light, to moderate; light and variable in the South Island, but westerlies prevailing in the far south. Seas rather rough north of East Cape; a considerable hut decreasing southerly swell south of East Cape; elsewhere in New Zealand waters slight to moderate. East to south-east winds in lhe eastern Tasman Sea; moderate to strong but decreasing in the northern portion, with rough but moderating seas; light to moderate in the southern portion, with slight to moderate seas. Weather fair to fine generally, but a few isolated showers still probable in the far northern and north-eastern parts of the North Island. Cold night but moderate day temperatures. YESTERDAY’S WEATHER. Wellington.—Cloudy early, but most of the day fine, sunny and calm. The minimum temperature on Wednesday night was 43dcg.; the maximum yesterday 50.2 deg., and the temperature at 3 p.m. yesterday, 49.4 deg. Rainfall at ‘‘The Dominion’’ building for 24 hours ended midnight, nil. Total for month. 2.72 in.; total for year. 23.93 in. Palmerston North.—A glorious autumn day; light clouds, brilliant sunshine; light easterly breeze. Masterion., —Fine but overcast; no wind. Wanganui.—Fine and sunny after a heavy frost and fog. Waipnkurau.—-A bright, sunny day with the barometer unchanged. Auckland. —Fine and sunny with a light easterly wind; temperatures were cool. The barometer remained steady at 30.10 in. Christchurch—Fine but cloudy, with a very light north-north-east breeze tn the morning, changing to north-east in the afternoon. The maximum temperature was 50deg. The barometer was steady at 30.20 in. Dunedin. —Overcast and dull, with a light south-westerly wind. The maximum temperature at midday was COdeg., and the barometer was fairly high and steady at 30.20 in.
