Victoria University College

The number of students attending classes at Victoria University College in 1035 was 751, according to the annual report of the professorial board, read at the council meeting last night. Of this total 714 (560 men and 145 women) were matriculated students, 91 (6S men and 23 women) beiug graduates, and 623 (uOl men and 122 women) undergraduates. In 1934, the total attending was 787 (6±B men and 169 women). The 1935 total was swelled to 1010 by the presence of 206 men and 53 women exempted students. The number of new students (internal) was 216, as against 213 in 1934, and the external students totalled 145, compared with 113 for the previous year. There were 118 men and 84 women full-time students. Four university national scholars, one Taranaki scholar; one engineering bursar and nine university national Jbursars entered on their courses of 1935.' In the university examinations held in November, 1935, 43 students gained their master’s degree, in arts 24 (Ist class honours 5, 2nd class honours 7) ; in science 12 (Ist class honours 5, 2nd class honours 4) ; in law, 3 (2nd class honours 2) ; in commerce. 4 (2nd class honours 2). One hundred and nineteen students gained their bachelor’s degree (in arts 58: in science. 17; in law, 16; in commerce, 27; in music, 1). Four hundred and twenty-four students passed sections of their bachelor’s degree (in arts, 154; in science, 56; in law. 74; in commerce. 140). Eight students completed the intermediate examination in medicine. 2 ; n dentistry. 1 in agriculture, 1 in engineering. and 3in home science. Four students gained the diploma in education, 5 students gained the diploma in social science, and 1 student gained diploma in journalism.
