LOAN OF PICTURES
Sydney’s Art, Treasures For Wellington A most generous offer has been received from the director of the National Art Gallery of New South Wales (Mr. J. S. McDonald) by the management ccinmit/ee of the National Art Gallery nt Wellington. This letter, written in reply to another, states that the board will gladly lend what pictures Wellington likes to choose for exhibition at the opening of the National Gallery. Incidentally Wellington has offered to pay the cost of sending such pictures, but, even so, the offer to allow a free choice is considered a most generous gesture. "May I add,” says the letter in conclusion, “that when your request was read out at the monthly meeting it was unanimously and heartily acceded to, with the general expression of a hope (hat the opening of your National Art Gallery would not only be a very successful function, but also the inauguration of a most successful career for the institute.” The present intention is that the collection of pictures from Sydney should follow on the opening, say. in September next. The collection from the National and Tate Galleries, to be exhibited at the actual opening, will be in Wellington for a month. Mrs. Mary Murray-Fuller, with her collection of English pictures, will arrive at Wellington on June 10.
