EMPIRE STATESMEN
Conference to Follow Coronation DEFENCE PROBLEM FIRST By Telegraph—Press Assn. —Copyright. London, May 27. The “Sun-Herald” news agency says that the Imperial Conference lias been fixed for after the coronation. Tlie main item on the agenda will be defence. Tlie agency learns that proposals for the closest possible co-ordination between Britain and the Dominions in defence activities and in connection with Imperial communications will be discussed. The basis of the discussions will be developments arising out of Britain’s Wliitc Paper programme, and also tlie operation of the Ministry of Co-ordination of Defence. Britain strongly believes that owing to the instability of the international situation tightening of Imperial defence and liaison is imperative, and that Empire trade agreements will work only if the trade routes are invulnerable.
