Arms Cargo Abyssinia Cannot Take PERMIT TO UNLOAD IN ENGLAND REFUSED By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. (Received May 29, 1.5 a.m.) Loudon, May 28. Carrying a cargo of arms and munitions, originally destined for Abyssinia, the British vessel La Santa Maria has become a ship that nobody wants and has been sailing for over a week between Gibraltar and Britain vainly seeking permission to land her perilous freight, which consists of 2iio incendiary bombs, 40 machine-guns, three aeroplanes and two tons ?f T.N.T., valued at £20.000, and mainly of Finnish manufacture.
The vessel left Finland on April 20 and by the time she reached Gibraltar Abyssinia bad collapsed and tlie arms were no longer required. Tlie Home Oilice refused permission for her t ,J land the munitions in England. La Santa Maria is at present anchored off the Channel Islands. It is understood she will return the munitions to Finland, but she may take them to Arabia.
The ship carries three German airmen in addition to a crew of 20 Britons.
