PURCHASE OF FOREIGN GOODS

That Government departments should advance reasons for purchasing goods of foreign origin was suggested tn notice of a question given by Mr. T. H. McCombs (Government, Lyttelton) to the Prime Minister. Rt. Hon. M. J. Savage, in the Bouse of Representatives yesterday. Mr. McCombs asked if the Prime Minister would issue instructions that where Government lepartments purchased goods of other than British origin, the officers of the department's affected should supply their respective Ministers with detailed reasons why British goods were not purchased. Mr. McCombs also asked whether in the event of such a course being followed the Government would consider giving the British Trade Commissioner a summarised statement showing where the British goods failed to come up to the required sland.a rd.
