The autumn meeting of the South Canterbury Jockey Club will be opened at Washdyke to-morrow, and concluded on Saturday. This is the first time for a few venrs that a two-day fixture has been held, and that, the change has been justified is evidenced by the large acceptances, while horses will be coming from further afield than under the previous arrangement of singlc-da.v meetings, iae track should be in excellent order, and the betting will be on the two-dividend system. The following horses may be supported:— , , Levels Hurdles.—The Smuggler and Wexford Bridge. Claremont Hack Handicap. 1 only and Swordstick. Opihi Trot.—Jlaltravers and Royal Donlton. . RIDING ENGAGEMENTS By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, May 20. Solwit will not. be on hand at Washdyke for to-morrow’s hurdle race, but will be a starter on Saturday. He suffered no ill effects from his Ashburton effort, and has only to keep as sound as at present to be a useful stake-euruer during the winter. Riding engagements as follow have been made for to-morrow's programme at Washdyke:—G. Humphries, Fair Weather, and Ponty; A. Parsons, Execution, Capital and Cape Gabo ; M. Kirwan, Latitucle, Polydora and Swordstick; J. Veevers, Ladv Kate and Colossian; A. E. Ellis, silver Streak; H. Turner. Wexford Bridge and Lycidas: G. Ridgway, Courtyard and Pahu ; A. Messervy. Jloonbeam, Call Money and Wino; L. J. Ellis, Emissary, Willie Win, Silver Coat and Hunting Go; C. McCarthy, Argentic; A. Stone, Haere Tonu and Monastic; A. S. Ellis, Giggleswick; J. Dooley, Madam Pompadour. Streamline, ridden by 11, Turner, was responsible for a dashing display over four hurdles at Riccarton to-day. Punchestown (Turner) negotiated ten of the schooling steeplechase fences. He jumped carefully in the first round, but completed the task in good style. He will probably he given a race at Washdyke next month preparatory to racing at Trentham in July.
