STATE PENSIONERS
Payment a Day Earlier This Month State pensioners will receive their pensions a day earlier this month on Friday, May 22. The reason for the change in the date of payment was explained yesterday by the Minister of Pensions, Hon. W. E. Parry, to be due to the regular day (the 23rd of the month) for paying out old-age, widows , blind, miners’ and war pensions falling this month on a Saturday. "The alteration,” said the Minister, “carries benefits all round. It prevents a congestion at the paying offices of a large number of elderly people and probably some physically incapacitated men—all understandably desirous of receiving their amounts promptly—and helps the officers to get their work with the pensioners done without having to rush it and maybe unwittingly bustle the pensioners.”
