TAXI-DRIVERS’ UNION
No Move at Christchurch Dominion Special Service. Christchurch, May 19. Although no steps have yet been taken by the taxi drivers of Christchurch to form an industrial union, there is activity among owner-drivers, and the formation of a national organisation of those men is being pressed forward. The move was started by an Auckland organisation of ownerdrivers. "The introduction of the Transport Act has resulted in considerable limitation of the business which taxicabs have formerly enjoyed,” says tho letter, in which the formation of tional organisation is suggested. “Me feel that because of the uncertainty of the future through the possibility ot further limitation by regulation the industry should be milted.” The letter proposed the setting up of q national body to meet annually, with an executive to meet quarterly.
