Not long after settling at Gore, Mr. AlcCaw bad decided to become a home missionary, and had begun that work at Tuapeka West. The greatest tribute that could be pnid ro anyone was to be able to say that "he was a good man.” Mr. AlcCaw wa.s more than that; he was “a man of God.” Ho had a most engaging personality, and there was in him an clement of quaintness which made his private and public speech very compelling and attractive. He possessed in a marked measure the saving grace of humour, and was a most hopeful man. “We do not grudge him his wellwon rest,” said Air. Asher, "and sympathise very deeply with his wife, who was a true helpmate, his only son, aud his brothers and .sisters.” The office-bearers of St. Giles’s were the pall-bearers at, the church, and members of the Wellington Presbytery were the pall-hearers at the cemetery.
