INDOOR BOWLS

N.Z. Tournament Begins > at Wellington The New Zealandciw’ Association bowling tournament began on Monday night at the indoor bowling green, Wellington Winter Show building, and was opened by the Mayor, Mr. T. O. A. Hislop. Mr. C. Mclntyre, president of the association, thanked the bowlers for their support in makng the tournament such a success, there beng 36 rinks entered ot New Zealand-born players, making a total of 114 players. lie said he hoped that those taking part would enjoy their •mines. -Mr. Mclntyre then introduced the Mayor Io start the tournament. The Mayor wished those taking part, win otiose, pleasant games throughout the tournament. He said he was not a bottlei. as would be seen later when lie would bowl up the first bowl, but he knew of the good fellowshqis which existed among bowlers. Mr. W. Gilbert, president of the M etlington centre, said he was pleased to be present to wish them all a pleasant tune <lu'-ing these evening tournament games. The bowlers had been fortunate in having, through the enterprise of Mr. I’riddle, such a line green 011 which to play and pass their evenings or afternoons, meeting t.hcir friends and enjoying a game of bowls during the winter months.
