NEW RAILWAY LINE
English Company’s “Flyover” (British Official Wireless.) (Received May 18, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, May 16. To-morrow the Southern Railway will bring into service a new line between Wimbledon and Earlsfieid, constructed as a 2200 feet long “flyover’ to obviate the necessity of local trains crossing the path of fast expresses in and out of Waterloo. The work, which is part of a scheme at a cost of £500.000, has been necessitated by the great increase of traffic—the number of trains entering and leaving Waterloo daily has increased from about 1000 ten years ago to over 1200. Tlie reorganisation has included the wiring of over 70 miles of track for a new colour signalling systehi which will enable distances between running trains to be considerably shortened.
