ROTORUA MUD FOR OVERSEAS SPAS

Use in Treating Disease POSSIBILITY OF LARGE EXPORT TRADE A ton of Rotorua mud is to be shipped to England and distributed among well-known spas as the result of a request by the High Commissioner to the Minister in Charge of Tourist, and Publicity Departments, Hon. F. Langstone, following on increased interest in British medical circles in the use Of min-eral-impregnated muds in the treatment of certain diseases. “I understand that considerable interest in tlie possibilities of Rotorua mud Ims been aroused through the publicity given to the curative treatments available at the spa,” snid Mr. Langstone in an interview yesterday. “Most of the mud used in Britain comes from Continental sources and is very expensive to purchase and transport to the spas. It has now been arranged to send a sample shipment of a ton, which will be distributed to such well-known spas as Harrogate. Droitwich and Bath. Advantage will be taken of the presence at Horae of Dr. B. G. Thompson, New Zealand representative on the British Spas Federation, to oversee the tests. “Both Dr. Thompson, who is a graduate of Otago University, and Dr. Duncan. Government balneologist at Rotorua, are strongly of opinion that Rotorua mud will be found most beneficial, and, ns supplies are practically inexhaustible. it is possible that a considerable export trade of a lucrative nature may be established.”
