FATAL FALL INTO LAKE
♦ Nun on the Way to Chapel While walking in a garden she loved, a nun became ill, fell unconscious into a lake, and was drowned. These facts came to light recently at the inquest at Kelvedon Hall Convent, near Ongar, on Sister Mary Josephine Primavesi, aged 57. She was on a visit to the convent from Manchester. Sister Primavesi was apparently on the way to chapel when the tragedy occurred, and in the water, near the body, was found a crucifix. Evidence was given by Sister Mary Frances D’Alton, Sister Superior, that Sister Primavesi had come from St. Joseph’s Hall, Whalley Range, Manchester, as her guest. She looked well, and after medical advice for a minor ailment was her normal sell'. “She was very pious and very good.” replied Sister D'Alton, when the coroner asked if Sister Primavesi had ever suggested harming herself. It was further stated that Sister Primavesi had occasionally walked alone in the garden, and that on the day of her death she wore very heavy clothing. A doctor told the coroner that Sister Primavesi had a cerebral haemorrhage, which probably caused her to collapse and fall into the water. A verdict of “Death by misadventure” was returned by tlie jury, who, wifli the coroner, had viewed the lake with its gently sloping banks.
