EVEREST EXPEDITION
Party Climbs Big Ice Face London, May 15. In a copyright message. Mr. Hugh Ruttledge, leader of the Everest Expedition, wirelessed from Camp 3. via Calcutta, that Messrs. Smythe, Oliver. Wigram, and Gavin, and eight picked porters, completed the route up the great ice face of the north col, cutting steps and fixing ropes for most of the way. Tiie route was steep, but reasonably safe from avalanches. Messrs Wyn Harris and Kempson. with 46 porters, have started for the north col, and it is hoped that Camp 4, at the height of 23.000 feet, will b*> completely stocked to-morrow. If pos sible Messrs. Smythe and Shipton will then occupy it. accompanied by the porters selected to establish th* 3 high est canips. The weatiier Is marvellously quiet, hut there Is rather too much snow on the mountain.
