The chief inspector of primary schools, Dr. J. W. Mcllwraith, was present at last night’s session of the annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute, when the inspection system in primary schools throughout tb<* Dominion was discussed. Among the suggestions were a broader method of grouping teachers for inspection; that inspectors should encourage research and experimental work; that opportunities should be given for teachers and inspectors to discuss problems; that refresher courses for inspectors should be provided; that inspectors be appointed by the proposed national board, and that the salaries of inspectors should be materially increased. All the recommendations were agreed to.
