Correspondence School Pupils, Parents and Teachers ASSOCIATION FORMED The opportunity afforded by the holding of the exhibition of correspondence school pupils’ work at Wellington last week was seized by the large number of parents who visited the exhibition to form a parents’ association. A provisional executive committee was appointed consisting of the following: Chairman, Mr. S. H. Roberts, Shannon ; hon. secretary, Mrs, 11. A. Corrigan. Otaki Forks; committee, Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Inglis (Woodville), Mr. and Mrs. F. West, (Pahiatua), Mr. and Mrs. H. A.' Wall (Havelock North), Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Swears (Inglewood), Mr. G. 11. Halliwell (Puketapu), Mrs. W. Arrow (Woodville), Mrs. A. A. Daysh (Carterton), Mrs. E. Cloherty (Cleveden), Mrs. J. E. Watts (Rakaia), Mr. G. AV. Peek (Tauinarunui). The. objects of the association include the furthering of the personal relationships between parents, pupils ami teachers; the practical encouragement of the school clubs aud societies; the establishment and development of a school fund; and the co-operation of parents and teachers generally in every possible way for the welfare of the school and the pupils. Motions were carried expressing appreciation of the support given to the correspondence school by the Hon. I’. Fraser, Minister of Education, and Mrs. Fraser, aud of the work of the headmaster. Dr. A. G. Butchers,. and his staff in organising the exhibition. Matters affecting the welfare of the school were discussed, aud subsequently the full committee waited as a deputation on the Minister ami made a request that the parents be given a voice in the management of the school through the setting up of a governing body, that provision be made for flic payment: of an incidentals allowance. Hint free handwork material and science equipment be provided lor the pupils, that the staffing of the school be placed on the same basis as is provided for the public schools, that provision be made for regular broadcast lessons to be given to the pupils, and for occasional visits to lie paid to pupils in their homes by selected members of the staff. The Minister replied expressing his keen satisfaction with the good work being done by the school, and said that he was specially pleased to know that a parents’ association had been formed. He promised to give sympathetic consideration to Hie matters submitted and to discuss them with the Director of Education and the headmaster of the school.
