TAWA FLAT PROGRESSIVE ASSOCIATION
The annual general meeting of the Tawa Flat Progressive and Beautifying Association was held in the Tawa Flat School recently. There was a very large attendance. The annual report, presented by the president, Mr. S. Duncan, dealt with the activities of the association for the past year, principally the setting up of a committee to investigate the available supply of water from various streams, which could be harnessed to supply all Tawa Flat with fresh water for household purposes, having two dispatches of mail from the district instead of one, as in the past, and the holding of Arbor Day celebrations, at which about 250 trees and plants were planted. The following officers were elected for the coming year:—Patron, Mr. L. G. Lowry; president, Mr. S. Duncan; vicepresidents, Messrs. R. Edgcombe, F. Larsen and Mrs. E. Wickham; committee, Mesdames E. Hook, G. Tarkington, P. Clark and L. Nairn, and Mesdames J. Hook, sen., and G. Turner; secretary, Mr. H. Cook; treasurer, Mr. G. Lightfot; auditor, Mr. A. H. Carman; solicitor, Mr. IV. I’. Rollings; publicity officer, Mr. W. Threadingham. It was resolved that the Railways Department be again urged to do its utmost to have trains running on the new deviation sooner than the date previously promised bv the general manager of railways, Mr. G. H. Mackley, April, 1937. The Government is to be asked to niaae it possible for section-owners in Tawa Flat to obtain loans from one or another of the Government departments to. build houses which at the present time they are unable to do. ________
